about

During the lock-down of 2021 I decided to drag my old Atari ST out of the loft to experiment with some of the MIDI software I’d not touched in years.

Foremost among the floppy discs I was keen to get spinning again was ‘Music Mouse’, the algorithmic musical composition software, developed by Laurie Spiegel in the mid Eighties.

Since most of the synthesizers I have these days don’t have a MIDI port, I was limited to using only my Kawai K1 and Casio FZ-1. All the tracks on this album were created only using those two instruments along with some delay and reverb. In all but the final track the Casio FZ-1 uses only its internal waveforms and synthesis engine, without any samples.

Many thanks to Laurie Spiegel for creating this marvellous piece of software and allowing us all to ride along on her prodigious coat-tails.
